Nanami Madobe?

Nanami Madobe Promotional ImageWho is she? What is she? Why should I care?

Nanami Madobe is an official OS-tan for Windows 7. An OS-tan is an anime-style personification of an OS. Fans of Windows (and other OSes) have created many different OS-tans, with many variations for each OS. Until Windows 7, there was no “official” OS-tan for any Microsoft OS.

Nanami Madobe is more than just a drawn character – she also has a voice. She was voiced by famed seiyū Nana Mizuki, who is known for her many roles in anime, including Hinata (Naruto), Fate (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha), Tamao (Shaman King), Kururu (Bottle Fairy), among others.

The name Nanami Madobe can be roughly translated as “seven” and “by the window”, a play on Windows 7. Nanami can also be seen as a play on Nana Mizuki, the name of her seiyū.

The Nanami Madobe theme for Windows 7 was only available in Japan, and only with Windows 7 Ultimate. The website The Banzai! Effect has a preview of the theme, along with a few other videos related to the Japanese launch of Windows 7.

What is included in the Nanami Madobe theme? Three unique wallpapers featuring the cute anime character, and a custom sound set.

Shortly after the release of Windows 7 in Japan, the Nanami Madobe themepack was made available online by various fans. If you are interested in using this theme, I have made it available on my site for your convenience. I have tested this theme and it works fine on Windows 7 Professional. Other sites claim it will also work on Windows Vista, but since I do not have Vista I cannot confirm this. To install it, just download, unzip, and double-click the themepack file and it will be set up automatically.
